Your first dance as husband and wife will be one of your most cherished moments from your big day, and you can make it even more memorable with wedding dance lessons.
At Dancecorp Dance Studios, we want to help you become more confident on the dancefloor and have wedding dance choreography that is truly special and comfortable for you as a couple.
Our instructors have specialised in bridal dances since we opened in 1992, and in that time, we’ve helped thousands of couples shine during their wedding dance.
In this blog we discuss:
- What to expect from bridal dance lessons at Dancecorp,
- What to wear,
- When to start dance lessons, and
- Father-daughter dances.
Bridal Dance Lessons Brisbane: What to Expect
This type of tuition is very specialised and Dancecorp are the experts when it comes to tailoring and teaching you a bridal dance that you will both be happy and confident with on your special day.
Many students simply assume that they will be learning a choreographed dance routine for their Bridal Dance, however, this is not normally what we recommend.
Why? Well, most couples simply want to feel comfortable, enjoy the moment and look stylish on the dance floor, so we suggest learning a nice variety of steps that you can simply freestyle on the day to take the stress out of having to remember a fully choreographed dance routine.
We focus on teaching the man to lead and the lady to follow and add in a nice entrance and exit.
That being said, if you wish to learn a choreographed routine, we are more than happy to teach you one. Just be aware that it tends to be more time intensive and costly.
Bridal Dance Lessons Brisbane: When to Start
Every couple is different and there is simply no such thing as a ‘one size fits all’ when it comes to learning your bridal dance.
From our experience, starting lessons at least three months prior to your wedding will allow you enough time to feel comfortable and confident on the dance floor – even if you want to learn more advanced steps.
Don’t have three months to learn your dance? We can still help if you and the instructor are available.
Bridal Dance Lessons Brisbane: What to Wear
Most couples tend to dress in smart casual attire for their lessons.
Women: For ladies, we recommend that you wear comfortable shoes for your first few lessons.
Once you get a feel for the dance and your skills progress, you should start wearing your wedding shoes or something similar to the style and height you’ll be wearing on the day.
Men: Males should wear leather soled shoes from the get-go.
If you’ve bought your wedding shoes, you should wear them or something similar during your lessons so you feel comfortable dancing in that style of footwear.
We don’t recommend wearing runners because they’re difficult to turn in.
Father Daughter Wedding Dance
Over the years father daughter dances have maintained their popularity. If this is something you’d like to include on your special day we are more than happy to help.
Also, we often have the parents of brides and grooms coming in to learn basic steps or brush up on their dancing skills so they are more comfortable on the dance floor.
